Challenge #6 at the 4 Crafty Chicks!

Welcome back for another fun-filled 4 Crafty Chicks Challenge. This week's challenge is brought to us by Leanne and she wants to see some distressing on our cards.  I must admit, this isn't a technique I use very often so it was fun to give it a go for this card.

I found an awesome color combination over at Crazy 4 Challenges and immediately knew I wanted to use it...and there's a prize up for grabs this week - a $25 VERVE gift certificate!!  WOOHOO!  One can never have too many Verves, in my opinion.  :)

Laura and Kazan over at 2 Sketches 4 You have a sketch that is very open to interpretation and I definitely took liberties with it:

Stamps: Prima Clear Stamp  Paper: Kraft, Basic Black, Wild Wasabi DSP   Ink: Versafine Onyx Black  Accessories: Chipboard swirl, clear embossing powder, felt flower, button, twine, So Saffron striped ribbon, paper piercer

I inked my chipboard with Onyx Black Versafine and then sprinkled clear embossing powder on it to give it some dimension so this card also qualifies for Tuesday Throwdown's challenge to use chipboard.

I wasn't sure about all of the empty space on the Kraft panel but, against my instinct, I left it alone.  I *so* wanted to emboss it or paper poke it or something...

I hope you will join us over at the 4 Crafty Chicks for our distressing challenge...we love to see what you create!

Two Throwdowns + Taylor's Sketch Challenge = ... joy in the little things

Hey there, crafty peeps!

Here's a quick post for you all - it is almost time for me to turn into a pumpkin and I wanted to get this posted before I head to bed.  I was out all day at work and then to town with my PIC, Lori, to get our nails done so when I got home I wanted to browse the blogs and check my email.  That was {all} I was going to do...until I saw the sneaky peeky on the Color Throwdown Facebook page:

Then I clicked over to a new-to-me challenge blog, Tuesday Throwdown, and discovered that their challenge for this week is Spotlighting.  I LOVE this technique but just don't use it very often so I was thrilled to take a crack at it again.  I remembered seeing Taylor's sketch this week and knew it was perfect for spotlighting:

I dug out my Cherry Blossoms set from Flourishes and a sentiment from Verve...

What do you think?  Isn't this sketch perfect for spotlighting?  I had a hard time with the Artichoke and Soft Suede together since it is kind of hard to tell the two apart from a distance but I think I made it all work.

Thanks for stopping by - I hope you are enjoying your week!

Another Totally Stampalicious Release Blog Hop!!!

It's time for another NEW RELEASE from Totally Stampalicious and we are soooo EXCITED to share ANOTHER FOUR NEW BUGABOO Stamp Sets ~ Morning Margaret, Cafe Scarlette, Red Hat Stella and Sweet Birthday Kids!  If you hopped here from Laurie's blog, you are on the right track - if you didn't, you might want to start at the beginning and see ALL of the wonderful creations.  :)  The only thing that could make it even MORE FUN is to add some PRIZES to the mix!!  As usual, we will select THREE winners from THREE randomly selected DT blogs so be sure to comment on all of them to increase your chances to win!!

I decided to use the super-cute Sweet Birthday Kids for my card and combined a few challenges to create my card:

1.  Mercy's Tuesday Sketch
2. There She Goes Inspiration Challenge #63

3. TCP Tuesday #118 - Use twine on your project.
4. Practical Scrappers - Embossing somewhere on your card.  I used dry embossing for the top white panel and heat embossing on the main image.
5. Tuesday Throwdown - Show us some stitching on your project.

I LOVE the colors in the inspiration picture and knew they'd be perfect for a birthday card.  I made Mercy's sketch into a square card, added a sentiment to the bottom left corner and voila:

Recipe - Stamps: Sweet Birthday Kids (Totally Stampalicious)  Paper: Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango, SU! DSP  Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Memento Tuxedo Black  Accessories: Sizzix embossing folder (Tiger Stripes), Nestabilities, sewing machine, various punches, paper piercer, ribbon, button, twine, green brad, Copics, clear embossing powder

Here's the entire Blog Hop list just in case you get lost along the way!
